Television career

The Bengali television serials were the start of Dam’s acting career. A serialized version of Jibon Niye Khela aired on Zee Bangla in 2003 and later in Tithir Atithi, a series of ETV Bangla photos by Jishu Dasgupta aired for six years on ETV Bangla.

Additionally, she has appeared in Tarpor Chand Uthlo, Sonar Harin, and Jaya. It was Bengali television that moulded Dam for a career in film, and she learned many valuable lessons from it.

Bengali film career

The dam began filming Teen Yaari Katha in 2004 but released the film in 2012 after years of anticipation (directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha). The director’s debut feature film was Agnipariksha (2006). Ravi Kinagi directed and Debendra Kuchar produced the film; Dam acted as a supporting character.

Following that film, Anna appeared in Tulkalam (2007), which was directed and produced by Haranath Chakraborty. The lead male and female characters were played by Mithun Chakraborty and Rachana Banerjee.

Dam made her Bengali movie debut with the film I Love You, in which she played the heroine’s friend.[16] She starred in the comedy of mistakes Hochheta Ki, which was directed by Basu Chatterjee, as a Bengali housewife.

2009тАУ2011

After appearing in seven Bengali films in 2009, Dam was brought to people’s attention by the success of Kaalbela (directed by Goutam Ghose). The Naxalite movement, which occurred during the 1980s, served as the backdrop for the film, which was based on a Bengali novel by Samaresh Majumdar.

A film critic praised Dam’s portrayal of Madhabilata, a young Naxalite leader’s girlfriend. This review of The Times of India highlights Pauli, who portrays Madhabilata with such integrity. The pain in her eyes and the romance in her voice make viewers feel as if she really is able to embody the character she is portraying.

Using Kalbela as a platform, Dam said in an interview that it was a “turning point” in her career: “Everyone needs a platform – and Kalbela gave me the platform. There were also six films directed by her that year: Hochchheta Ki, directed by Basu Chatterjee; Jamai Raja, directed by Swapan Saha; Mallick Bari, directed by Rituparno Ghosh; and Shob Charitro Kalponik, directed by Rituparno Ghosh.

Five of the eleven Bengali films Dam appeared in 2010 remain unreleased, including Tara (directed by Bratya Basu), Takhan Teish (directed by Atanu Ghosh), Moner Manush (directed by Goutam Ghose), and Kagojer Bou (directed by Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay).

Dam’s second film with Ghose, Moner Manush, was a drama in which she portrayed Baul Komli. This review finds that Dam made “sincere attempts to portray Kamli”, according to The Times of India. In an interview, Ghose remarked that the actress had learned a lot from working with her.

The Sri Lankan actor starred in Chatrak, directed by Vimukthi Jayasundara, in 2011. A le**ed outtake from the film, in which Paoli, a Bengali girl, is s*xed without body doubles, sparked controversy in India.

2012тАУpresent

As well as her first Hindi film Hate Story, Dam has also appeared in three Bangla films: Bedroom (directed by Mainak Bhaumik), Elar Char Adhyay (directed by Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay), and Teen Yaari Katha (her first production, directed by Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha).

Priyanka, played by Dam, is a bored and irritable housewife; the story of Bedroom is centered around the lives of Kolkata urban couples. The film Elar Char Adhyay is a remake of the novel Char Adhyay written by Rabindranath Tagore and set during the British Raj in India.

Dam portrayed Ela, a teacher who fights for independence for the Indian people. She received praise for her acting; The Indian Express described Dam’s performance on “Hate Story” as “wonderful”, and The Times of India pointed out,

“Those who believed that Paoli’s “Hate Story” outing was merely about being bold will be pleasantly surprised by her sheer maturity in reinterpreting boldness in a context long gone.” The actress performed a supporting role in Teen Yaari Katha. The family album of Mainak Bhaumik also featured Dam.

MMS scandal is at the center of the film, which also stars Swastika Mukherjee. Dam next appeared in Chaya Manush (2014). Her character in the film, directed by Arindam De, was a journalist named Trisha. In later years, Dam appeared in a film directed by Birsa Dasgupta, Obhishopto Nighty (cursed nighty).

The comedy-romantic film featured Dam as Miss Monica, a Bengali bar singer of the 1980s. In an interview with People magazine, Dam claimed that she was initially reticent to accept the role, but realized that it was a “love story”.

She released two more films after that: the drama Sada Canvas, directed by Abhijit Guha, and the romantic comedy Hercules, produced by Sudeshna Roy. Her character, Minu, in Hercules, is described by Dam as a “practical, grounded character with no emotional drive”.

Anjan Das’ Ajana Batash was her first release in 2015, in which she played Deepa, working at a marketing agency in Kolkata, who is depressed despite all the affluence. Among Dam’s upcoming films in the Bengali film industry is Debesh Chattopadhyay’s Natoker Moto – Like a Play,

which I quoted earlier was a “fictional biopic of a renowned actress of the Bengali stage during the 1970s”, Auroni Taukhon by Saurav Chakraborty, a romantic comedy set in the context of communal disturbances, and Tobuo Aparichito by Swarup Ghosh.

Bollywood career

Director Vivek Agnihotri and producer Vikram Bhatt made Dam’s Bollywood debut in Hate Story in 2012. Dam plays Kavyah Krishna, a s*x worker in the film. After shoving one of India’s biggest business tycoons, she and her friend Vicky pull off a caper. Compared to other actors in the film, Dam’s performance was somewhat underwhelming.

The Times of India reports: Paoli Dam is not only very good at playing the role of the female lead, but also very good at acting. There is no pathos in her narration that would allow you to feel fervent empathy for her character.

The actress still manages to pull off her role well, despite the fact that her act is not accomplished. The film’s commercial success inspired producer Vikram Bhatt to plan a sequel with Surveen Chawla replacing Dam. The next film Dam appeared in was Ankur Arora Murder Case, directed by Vikram Bhatt.

The film is based on the true story of an operating room death attributed to medical malpractice. The film is directed by Sohail Tatari. It features Dam as an attorney fighting for justice. The actress said about her role: “It’s a fairly de-glamourized role that’s quite real and real life-like.

It’s one I really enjoyed playing.” Taran Adarsh, an Indian film critic, and journalist, called Dam after seeing the film in Mumbai and said that she should work more in Bollywood. Tam appeared as a dancer in Satish Kaushik’s comedy-horror film Gang of Ghosts (2014).

The film, directed by Subhash Sehgal, is titled Yaara Silly Silly. She will also join Kay Kay Menon and Raveena Tandon in Ashuu Trikha’s thriller Jee Jaan Se (come April 2013) as a homemaker whose life is torn apart by the death of her husband.

An article in The Times of India from 25 April 2013 reported that Dam has been offered a third film (also a thriller) after working in two Vikram Bhatt films.

Other films

Laxmikant Shetgaonkar directed the Konkani film Baga Beach, in which Dam was involved in 2012. Shetgaonkar gave her this script after meeting him at the Cannes film festival in 2011; he liked it and thought I would enjoy working on a Konkani film. And it would be a great experience to commit 15 to 20 days to a film.”.
