On Wednesday, Japan stunned Germany with two late goals in their World Cup Group E opener.
At the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Germany took the lead with a penalty from Ilkay Gundogan in33 minutes.
Just before halftime, Kai Havertz scored a goal, but it was disallowed for offside.
Japan upset Germany in the opening round of the tournament with goals from striker Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano in the final 15 minutes.
The Germans are seeking redemption following their surprise exit from the group stage in Russia in 2018, which was Hansi Flick's first World Cup in charge.
When Germany's players posed for their pre-match team photo, they covered their mouths with their hands.
In attendance was Nancy Faeser, interior minister of the country, as well as FIFA president Gianni Infantino
In response to FIFA's threat of sanctions, the protesters wore the "OneLove" armband.
