Despite United not restricting Cristiano Ronaldo's next club, Newcastle has already ruled out a move for the striker, according to ESPN.

Despite Ronaldo's contract expiring in June, the 37-year-old can sign for another club immediately, without waiting until January.

According to ESPN, Newcastle, owned by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, is not interested in the Portugal international.

It has also been reported that Ronaldo's representatives are hoping Chelsea will revive their interest.

When Jorge Mendes met with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly last summer, Thomas Tuchel rejected a potential deal. Graham Potter has replaced the German.

An unnamed Saudi Arabian club offered an around £2m-a-week contract in July, so strong interest is expected from the Middle East.

ESPN reports Ronaldo walked away from Old Trafford without a pay-off after United threatened to sue.

According to United, Piers Morgan's interview constituted "gross misconduct" under his contract after extensive legal advice.

Premier League players are prohibited from giving interviews unauthorized by clubs and from writing or saying anything likely to create disrepute for the club.

Ronaldo criticized the Glazer family and manager Erik ten Hag for the lack of progress since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
